July 4 Pictures and Update

VT Soccer Star

Brady really got into the spirit of Euro 2008.  Here he is with his VT shirt and VT soccer ball.  Now he wants to go visit Spain (they won the tournament for those who don't get the Euro 2008 reference).

Brady getting ready to hail a cab.  Seriously, though, I think this is a regular baby pose.  I forget what the reflex is called but there is one that causes babies to raise their arm when their head is turned and get into a fencing-style pose.

Everyone Loves Daddy

Poor daddy, he can't get any decent sleep.  He's got Brady sleeping on him and Sundae decided to lay down on the blanket and get between daddy's legs.   Don't you kids realize daddy is old and requires more sleep in his old age?!?

Brady continues to pack on the weight.  He is roughly 8lb 4 oz now which is 2 and 3/4 pounds over a month ago.  He is really doing his best to make up for the lost time.  He eats roughly 3.5 oz per feeding.  He was at 3 oz until a few days ago when he hit a growth spurt and wanted 1.5-2 oz between his regular 3 oz feedings.  So we bumped his feedings up in size.  He seems about 21 inches long.  We have a doctor's appointment on the 9th to get his real stats.  He is a lot better about sleeping during the night but is still probably a month or more away from sleeping through the night.  He is doing a lot better at holding his head up when you burp him.  Brady's getting bigger quickly.

Cathy is hopefully nearing the end of part of her recovery.  Her c-section scar is nearly healed.  We're hoping the doctor just gives her a steristrip and calls that healed.  Her coumadin levels are now at the high side of the range (2.9) but within limits.  The only side affect is a lot of nosebleeds.

Three Generations

Here we have 3 generations of Novean men.  Brady with daddy Mike and Grampa Bob.

Mike's dad and stepmom came for a visit over the holiday weekend so Brady got new guests.  Aunt Kim also came up on the 5th and our friends Pat and Diana came by on the 6th.  So Brady got a lot of visitors this weekend.  He is closing in on the 8 and a half pound mark.  He had his largest feeding to date last night at 5 oz.  He then slept nearly 6 hours after that feeding (but he fussed a fair amount... probably because of a tummy ache from eating so much).  Our main thing to work on this week is facing left when laying down.  Brady really wants to face right and we don't want him to get a lumpy head.

Brady had a doctors appointment on the 9th.  He weighed 8 lb 15 oz, was 21 inches long, and had a head circumference of 37 inches.  He is finally on the chart for babies born on his birth date.  He may be down in the 1st to 5th percentile but he is making good progress.  He has gained nearly 5 and a half pounds in just over 9 weeks.

Sleeping on Mommy

Brady looks so cute when he falls asleep on your shoulder after being burped.  Sometimes he gets worn out after a feeding.

Sleeping like a Grownup

Brady still has a ways to go until the king size bed is the right size for him.

July 26 update:  Speaking of sleeping, there might be some hope for mommy and daddy maintaining their sanity.  The past 2 nights, Brady has essentially skipped a feeding.  On Thursday night, he slept from 10PM to 4 AM (would have been better if we went to be with him at 10) and then he slept from 11 to 5 on Friday night.  Mike's buddy Dave claims that 10lb was the magic weight for his kids sleeping through the night.  Brady is now 10 lb 4 oz so he should be getting close to the size for being able to skip a feeding.  We've also seen 11lb and other higher numbers mentioned.  Brady has also been making up for lost feedings during the day...
We also have a othopedic dr appointment on 8/14.  It was either that day at 2 PM or in October.  So hopefully we'll get good news on Brady's pinkies and other joints.

Hat is still too big

Brady has Mike's fair skin so he needs to wear a hat whenever he goes out for a walk and it is sunny out.  Unfortunately he still has a little ways to go before his hat really fits him.

Sleeping on Sundae

Brady actually got calmed down sleeping on Sundae.  She was purring and that seemed to get him sleepy.  We think it might make him think of being in the womb because Sundae used to always snuggle up to Cathy's belly and purr.  So maybe it seems like old times to Brady.

Brady is up to 10 and a half pounds.  We're trying to get him to start eating more than 4 oz at a time.  He's been stuck in the 3-4 oz range for a while and he just seems to eat more often (i.e. every 2-2.5 hours instead of every 3).  He is still trying to sleep a little bit more during the night.  He's had some 6 hour sleepings and a 4.5 last night.  Hopefully he can start regularly skipping the 2 AM feeding.
